Hello! Today I will talk about the hidden beauty in the north of Montenegro, Zabljak.
Zabljak is located in the center of the Durmitor region and stands at an altitude of 1,456 meters, being the highest situated town on the whole Balkans.
The first name for this place was Varezina voda, as the place was rich with drinkable water, thus making it habitable for a settlement. Later in time, it was renamed to “Hanovi”, because it was used as a stop for caravans.
The modern name appeared only when the town was officially built, with a school and a church.
Today, Zabljak is a popular resort in Montenegro. Most of the activities in Zabljak are active in Winter, such as skiing or snowboarding. However, there are plenty of activities here during the summer. During the summer, the weather here is mild and warm. Below, I will list some places to visit during the summer in Zabljak.
1. The Black Lake.
The Black Lake is a popular tourist attraction in Zabljak. The lake is one of the 18 lakes that are named the eyes of Durmitor. There are a couple of cafes near the lake, but the main attraction is the path that was made around the lake. Many tourists circle the lake and enjoy the various views of the lake at different points of their journey.
There are also informative signs in various places along the path that tell you about different species that can be found near the lake, along with some general information about the location.
2. Vrazje jezero.
Vrazje jezero is yet another lake that is one of the 18 eyes of Durmitor. This lake is not deep at the lighter-colored parts of the lake. However, don’t let that deceive you, the lake is 10.8 meters deep, and the dark blue center of the lake indicates that.
3. Zminje jezero.
Zminje jezero is a lake that got it’s name from the belief that this part of Durmitor was infested with snakes at some point in time. The lake is pretty remote and there it has a very serene athmosphere.
